Consignments – Seller Information

We deal in quality used, vintage and rare brass and woodwind instruments and would love to help you find the best home for your instrument.

Our goal 100% of the time is to ensure our customers have a great experience when doing business with us, so there are a few things we want you to know about used gear for when you decide to sell.

We do not give estimates or appraisals without physically inspecting the item. We know it can be a drag to drive across town for an appraisal, but we can not know an item's condition or exact value without thoroughly inspecting it first. This ensures that the seller gets an accurate appraisal, the buyer gets a quality product, and we maintain the integrity of our estimated product values.

Price guides do not necessarily reflect the actual price at which we can sell your item. Oftentimes there is a discrepancy between what a vintage sax buying guide or used gear guide says an item is worth and what customers will pay for an item. The fact that your great-grandfather played this sax at your parent’s wedding is endearing, but at the end of the day, the real world value is only as much as people are willing to pay. It all comes down to supply and demand.

Our consignment services include: detailed photos of your instrument and a description and review on our website and in the shop, online listings on Craigslist and direct mail to interested buyers, display in our showroom with the availability for potential buyers to try out horns in a professional setting.

The storeowner must approve all instruments brought in for consignment. If repairs are recommended, in most cases we will require the consignor to pay for repair costs before the instrument is put on consignment.

Remember – the better it looks and plays, the faster it will sell!

In most cases, you will be required to leave your instrument for the storeowner to examine. In some cases, we may be able to set up an appointment for you.

The consignor will be contacted directly with a recommended selling price and after agreeing to the selling price and signing the consignor contract, we will put the instrument up for sale.

Payment

Consignments are paid 30 days after the instrument sells. This is to allow time for checks to clear, returns to be made etc. Payment will be mailed in the form of a check to the consignor. If the consignor would prefer to pick up their check in person, they must contact David’s Instrument Repair first. It is the consignor’s responsibility to notify David’s Instrument Repair if contact information has changed.

Consignment Fees

Consignment fee (15%) is calculated from the selling price of the item.
